Sheffield, once the global heart of the steel industry, has evolved into a city where industrial heritage meets green landscapes and a growing creative scene. Known historically for innovations like stainless steel, Sheffield still celebrates its roots at sites like the Kelham Island Museum, where restored machinery and interactive exhibits tell the story of the city’s engineering legacy. The museum sits in a former industrial quarter now filled with microbreweries, art spaces, and independent food venues.

Surrounded by the hills of South Yorkshire and with one-third of its land inside the Peak District National Park, Sheffield has more trees per person than any city in Europe. Visitors can walk through the Sheffield Botanical Gardens, home to more than 5,000 species, or explore Ecclesall Woods, where ancient trees grow alongside remnants of old charcoal kilns. Even within the city centre, the Winter Garden offers a peaceful spot with over 2,500 plants from around the world.
