St. George, Utah, is a desert city in the state’s southwest corner, celebrated for its striking red rock landscapes, mild climate, and proximity to some of the American West’s most iconic natural wonders. Founded by Mormon pioneers in 1861, the city retains elements of its pioneer heritage while embracing its role as a hub for outdoor recreation and tourism. The historic downtown features preserved buildings like the St. George Tabernacle and Brigham Young’s Winter Home, reflecting its roots as one of Utah’s earliest settlements.

Surrounded by dramatic scenery, St. George is a gateway to Snow Canyon State Park, known for its lava flows, sandstone cliffs, and scenic hiking trails. It’s also less than an hour from Zion National Park, making it a popular base for exploring southern Utah’s “Mighty Five” national parks. Golf courses, biking trails, and nearby reservoirs add to the city’s reputation as a year-round outdoor destination. With more than 300 days of sunshine annually, it draws visitors seeking both adventure and relaxation.
